Flagler's First Half Goals Too Much For North Georgia


ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – Third-seeded Flagler College defeated sixth-seeded North Georgia 2-0 Tuesday night in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament quarterfinal match at Saints Field.

Flagler advances to the semifinal round Nov. 5 and will face No. 2 seed Lander University at 7:30 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga., while North Georgia ends its season at 8-6-4 overall. Flagler improves to 13-3-1 on the season with the victory.

Will Frandsen started the scoring in the 13th minute when he converted a penalty kick past North Georgia goalkeeper Rade Tanaskovic. Frandsen has scored a goal in three-out-of-his-last-four matches.

Conor Killeen added an insurance goal in the 41st minute when he sent a deflected cross into the back-left corner past Tanaskovic.

North Georgia had opportunities throughout the match to get on the scoreboard. Gray Phelps nearly gave his team the first lead of the match in the fifth minute but his shot from center box was saved by Matt Gilman. Chris Griffith had an attempt in the 15th minute that sailed just left of the goal.

Gilman recorded his ninth shutout of the season while collecting six saves, while Tanaskovic denied seven Flagler attempts.

Flagler out-shot North Georgia 26-19, held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks and was reprimanded for 21-of-37 fouls.
