Men's Soccer Interacts with Students at Local School
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia men's soccer team continues to give back to the local community as players recently entered Chestatee Academy to motivate local children to pursue their education.
On March 4, 2011, men's soccer players Juan Hurtado, Mikki Bozickovic, Carlos Avendano, Kristopher Alonzo, and head coach Coach Pat Parris traveled to nearby Chestatee Academy to communicate in Spanish with students that have recently arrived to the United States from Latin American countries.
The student-athletes shared their experiences of arriving and living in the United States and how soccer has opened up an opportunity to continue their education.
After head coach Pat Parris and members of the team spoke to the group, they organized games and activities that allowed the middle school students to enjoy the activities these athletes play and love.
The North Georgia Soccer Team did not only influence those students from Latin America, but students from various backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities. The team plans to coordinate visits to Chestatee Academy in the future to cultivate relationships with the students as part of the NCAA Division II Community Engagement initiative.
