Men’s Soccer Falls 2-1 to Eckerd in PBC – Sunshine Challenge
TAMPA, Fla. – The North Georgia College & State men's soccer team was unable to find the positive result they were looking for Saturday afternoon as the Saints fell 2-1 to Eckerd College in the Peach Belt – Sunshine Challenge hosted by the 10th-ranked University of Tampa at Pepin Stadium.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 1-2 on the young season while the Tritons improve to 2-1 after claiming their second victory over a Peach Belt Conference school in as many matches. Eckerd upset No. 18 Clayton State Thursday evening.
The two schools worked to a 0-0 tie through the first half and the trend continued through much of the second, but it was the Saints who broke the tie when Max Angel scored off a penalty kick in the 66th minute after an Eckerd foul in the box.
Eckerd took 11 minutes to answer off a goal by Nick Murawski, knotting the score back up at one-all.
From there, the Saints took five shots in an attempt to find the go-ahead goal. Despite being out-shot 5-1 in the closing minutes, the Tritons were able to make the most of their final shot of the game when Nick Jackson found the back of the net with just under three minutes remaining to put Eckerd on top for good 2-1.
In total, North Georgia out-shot the Tritons 15-9 in the contest and held a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, but Hoffer made five critical saves in the contest to help Eckerd to their second win of the week.
North Georgia returns home for a two-game homestand that begins on Tuesday, Sept. 11 with a non-conference match against Lenoir-Rhyne. The 6:00 p.m. game is Military Appreciation night at the North Georgia Soccer Field.
