GREENWOOD, S.C. – The North Georgia College & State University men's soccer team was unable to find the desired positive result Wednesday night as the Bearcats of Lander University defeated the Saints 1-0 in Peach Belt Conference action at the Jeff May Complex.
The Saints are sixth in the conference with a 7-5-2 overall record including a 3-3-2 PBC mark while Lander, which is second in the Southeast Region and third in the conference, improves to 11-2-1 and 6-1-1 in the league.
The game progressed scoreless well into the second half of action before Lander's Chris Hobbs gave the Bearcats the 1-0 lead off a penalty kick in the 74th minute.
Despite a furocious attack mounted late by the Saints that included Chris Bishop and Tyler Daly each attempting to find the equalizer in the closing minutes with headers, Lander was able to hold on for the narrow 1-0 win.
North Georgia held the 11-9 advantage in shots while Lander owned a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
North Georgia's final game of the regular-season is Saturday, Oct. 27. The University of South Carolina Aiken will come to Dahlonega for a 7:30 p.m. match which will serve as the Saints' "Senior Night." North Georgia will look to honor seniors Max Angel, Chris Bishop, Gustavo Cunha, Juan Hurtado and Jesy Phelps for their time with the program.
