Nighthawks Fall 4-0 At Nova Southeastern To Split South Florida Road Swing
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – (UNGAthletics.com) – The UNG men's soccer team fell to an even 1-1 on the season this afternoon with a 4-0 road loss at Nova Southeastern University at the NSU Soccer Complex. The men completed the two-game south Florida swing with a split to open the 2013 campaign.
The Sharks had four separate goal scorers on Sunday with the game-winning goal came from David Robles who scored in the 40th minute. Prior to his goal and after a two-hour weather delay, the Sharks were pressing and had outshot North Georgia, 8-2.
The offensive attack culminated on a corner kick from Andrea Spuntarelli, who nearly scored himself. His corner deflected off the hands of the UNG keeper Kris Alonzo, bounced off the post and right to Robles who tapped it in.
The Sharks continued to apply the pressure in the second half against UNG who was fresh off a win against Sunshine State Conference rival Barry on Friday. Nova Southeastern striker Viktor Jonsson scored his first collegiate goal in the 52nd minute. Jonsson made a heads up play by stripping the defender 20 yards in front of the goal and firing just after stepping in the 18-yard box.
In the 67th minute, Guido Riffeser scored his first goal of the season. The final goal came from NSU's Dylan Papa.
The Sharks recorded 20 shots in the match, 10 in each half, with eight on target. The UNG offense was only able to muster six shots led by James Dobbin's single shot on goal.
UNG's Alonzo recorded three saves in seven attempts.
North Georgia (1-1) returns to action on Wednesday, September 11 against Lincoln Memorial University in the team's home opener with kickoff set for 7:00 at the UNG Soccer Complex in Dahlonega.
