AIKEN, South Carolina – (UNGAthletics.com) – Host USC Aiken recorded a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over the University of North Georgia men's soccer team. The Pacers (4-11-2, 1-7-1 PBC) used a pair of goals from Jarrel Smalls to secure their first league victory of the season.
In the 22nd minute, Smalls received a through ball 30 yards out from Noel Mais and after taking a quick dribble he collected himself and blasted home the goal, making it 1-0 for USC Aiken.
Smalls would connect again in the 58th minute on the game's eventual game-winner when he dribbled up the right side into the Nighthawks' defense and tallied the unassisted goal.
North Georgia (3-13-2, 1-6-2) would cut the Pacer lead in half by virtue of an unassisted goal by Amin El-Shami in the match's 64th minute. The goal would be the midfielder's third of the season and first since September 14 in a 2-1 loss to Pfeiffer.
In the 71st minute USCA's Carson Villa would use an assist from Jason King to record the game's final score.
For the match, the Pacers held a 15-7 advantage in shots and a 9-7 edge in corner kicks. Brandon Jarosz played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Pacers and would gather four saves on the evening. UNG's Kristopher Alonzo and Diego Casillas each played a half for the Nighthawks and combined for four saves.
Despite the loss, North Georgia caps the regular-season with an eighth-place finish in the Peach Belt Conference standings and will travel to top-seeded and #2 ranked Young Harris on November 5 in a conference tournament quarterfinal match up.
