Men's Tennis Blanks Young Harris to Open 2011 Season

YOUNG HARRIS, GA – The North Georgia men's tennis team opened the 2011 season on Tuesday afternoon, traveling to nearby Young Harris College and blanking the Mountain Lions 9-0 at the YHC Tennis Complex.

The Saints pick up their season opener, improving to 1-0 on the year, while the Young Harris drops their second straight match to a Peach Belt Conference school to open the year, falling to 0-2 on the young season.

North Georgia dominated the doubles portion of the match as Mateus Camasmie and Adrien Saulais breezed their way to an 8-1 win at No. 2, while Giovani Santos and Ernesto Farnas pulled out an 8-5 victory at No. 3.

The match of the day came at No. 1 doubles where Brandon Sloan and Felipe Friedrich battled Martin Harach and Grabiel Oliveria and the match was all square at 8-8, but the Saints controlled the tiebreaker, surrendering just a single point to pull away 7-1 in the tiebreaker for a 9-8 victory.

North Georgia cruised in five of the six singles matches as Sloan found himself in a battle with Hamala, but the Gainesville, Ga., native grinded out a 7-6 victory in the opening set, before pulling away for a 6-2 victory in the second set to seal the match and give the Saints a 9-0 victory.

The Saints return to action in Dahlonega on Saturday, February 12, playing their home opener against West Alabama in non-conference action. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. at the North Georgia Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.
