AUGUSTA, GA – The North Georgia men's tennis team dropped their second match in as many days to ranked opponent, falling 7-2 at 18th-ranked Augusta State University in Peach Belt Conference action.
The Saints fall to 6-6 overall on the year and 0-5 in Peach Belt Conference play, while the Jaguars, ranked No. 18 in the latest ITA national poll and No. 7 in the latest Southeast Region poll, improve to 10-5 overall and 1-4 in league action.
North Georgia dropped all three doubles matches, but nearly pulled out a point at no. 3 doubles where Giovani Santos and Ernesto Farinas fell 9-8 (7-2) to Jenner Stevenson and Maxime Coulomb.
The Saints pulled out two points in singles action as Mateus Camasmie improved to 9-2 on the year in singles play with victory over Henrique Boturao. Camasmie was leading 6-3, 3-2 when Boturao retired to give North Georgia their first point of the day.
Brandon Sloan was also leading Stevenson 7-6 (7-5), 3-2 at No. 5 singles when Stevenson retired, sending Sloan to a win and handing the Saints another point, but the Jaguars would pull out the remaining matches and hang on for the 7-2 victory.
North Georgia returns to action on Saturday, March 26, welcoming Lander University to town for a Peach Belt Conference match. First serve at the Yahoola Creek Tennis Complex is set for 1:00 p.m.
