Saints Tennis Sweep Mars Hill on the Road, Men Win 9-0

MARS HILL, N.C. – The University of North Georgia men's and women's tennis teams both defeated the Mountain Lions of Mars Hill College Wednesday afternoon. The 23^rd-ranked men (3-2) won 9-0 while the women (1-5) claimed an 8-1 victory over the Southeast Region opponent.

On the men's side, Mars Hill had three defaults at No. 3 doubles and at No. 5 and 6 singles. With the 3-0 boost, Felipe Friedrich, Matheus Guida, Giovani Santos and Anthony Veryard were able to cruise to victory. Guida, the Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, and doubles partner Friedrich won 9-7 and then had little trouble in their singles matches while Veryard swept Mike Melvill in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

For the women, Mars Hill was able to claim a victory at No. 1 doubles, but the Saints swept the rest of the matches from the Mountain Lions. Cameron Williams and Adalyn Hazelman combined to win 8-2, the same score for Audrey Marlette and Nela Handac in their doubles match at No. 3.

Both North Georgia teams will next travel to Savannah, Ga. to take on PBC foe Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday, Mar. 2. The Pirates are ranked No. 1 in the nation in both men's and women's tennis. From there, the Saints will travel to St. Augustine, Fla. to take on Flagler College on Sunday, Mar. 3.
