#Nighthawk Tennis Teams Record Identical 5-4 Wins At Tusculum
GREENEVILLE, Tennessee – (UNGAthletics.com) – The University of North Georgia men's and women's tennis teams posted identical 5-4 road wins over Tusculum College on Friday evening at TC's Nichols Tennis Complex. The men rallied back from a 4-2 deficit to secure the match's final three victories while the women registered victories in the top three singles spots to earn five of the first six possible points.
Both coaches agreed to play a 10-point tie-breaker in place of third sets due to quickly dropping temperatures.
The Tusculum men entered the match ranked #47 nationally in the most recent ITATennis rankings but it was the Nighthawks that drew first blood taking two of the three doubles matches. Giovani Santos and Sam Gantt earned a hard fought 9-7 win at #2 doubles over T.Taylor and D. Siegle. Cameron Mistr and Alexander Reinauer were victorious at third doubles with an 8-6 win over J.Taylor and L. Seiz.
Tusculum would bounce back to take a 4-2 lead courtesy of singles victories at the top three spots. Reinauer (#4), Mistr (#5), and Matheus Pineda would secure the victory with consecutive wins from the bottom of the lineup. Pineda disposed of Seiz 7-5, 3-6 (1).
The victory moves the men to 2-0 on the young season.
On the women's side, Natalia Escobar and Mathilde Baartvedt tallied an 8-6 win over TC's Kealee Heffner and Kate Hutchinson while Cameron Williams and Adalyn Hazelman teamed up to down Sarah Baker/Adrienne Kaye 8-4 at second doubles.
Williams, Escobar and Baartvedt each posted tie-breaker victories at the top of the singles lineup to give the Nighthawks their first victory of the season. All three rallied back to win the decisive tie-breaker after winning the first set before dropping the second.
Williams downed Baker 6-2, 3-6 (6) at #1 singles while Escobar earned a 6-1, 0-6 (8) win at #2 over Erin Mills. Baartvedt's 6-1, 5-7 (5) victory over Hutchinson at #3 singles was the decisive point for the Nighthawks who move to 1-1 on the season.
Both teams will complete the road trip with a 1:00 non-conference match at Brevard College on Saturday.
