SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The North Georgia College & State University mixed rifle team closed out the fall portion of their season in by winning their fourth Southeastern Rifle Conference air rifle match Saturday, this time hosted at Wofford College.
The Saints won the tournament with a strong 2,274-point total. They beat their rival, The Citadel, for the first time this season by 12 points, followed by Wofford and Clemson University. Saints contributing to the win were freshmen Casadie Bragg, Cadet Ryan Moran, Cadet Kyle Bailey and Sara Howell.
In the individual standings, three Saints finished in the top ten, including the top two spots. Bragg fired an excellent 578/600 to claim the win. She now has three first place finishes and two second place finishes out of eight matches this season. Additionally, Bragg is the only athlete in the conference who has won more than one match.
Moran shattered his personal record by 17 points with a very strong 576 to take second place by a six-point margin over third. Bailey also stood out with a very good 564 to claim sixth place.
In NCAA competition, the Citadel men's team edged past the Saints 2,254 to 2,244 while Wofford finished third and Citadel women fourth.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 when they host the entire Southeastern Rifle Conference for a tournament at their on-campus range.
