Saints drop pair of heartbreakers in championship
North Georgia ends season as NCAA Regional runner-up
PEMBROKE, NC - North Georgia College & State University was one win away from making a trip to the NCAA Division II College Softball World Series, but dropped 3-0 and 1-0 games at the hands of Michaela Wolf and Francis Marion University to put a lid on a remarkable postseason run.
North Georgia went up against Francis Marion University who emerged from the losers bracket with a vengeance, shutting down the Saints prolific offence with a pair of shutouts to advance to National Tournament.
The Saints dropped game one 3-0, and came back two hours later and again could not get off the deck, falling 1-0 to the Patriots of Francis Marion University, who won their last three games to take home the regional title.
Head Coach Mike Davenport and his squad ended their first ever NCAA postseason appearance as the runner-up in the PBC Tournament and runner-up in the NCAA Regional Tournament, finishing the year with an astounding 38-15 record, including a 3-2 mark the regional in Pembroke, North Carolina.
Five Saints were honored for their effort in the regional as Krista Bess, Sarah Phillips, Kasey Knight, Natasha Willemse, and Courtney McGuire were all named to the 2008 NCAA South Atlantic Regional All-Tournament Team.
