STARKVILLE, MS - North Georgia College & State University's Laura Voyles was named a Louisville Slugger third team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced this week. Voyles received the award less then a week after leading her team to the South Atlantic Regional Championship game for the first time in school history.
Laura Voyles was second for the Saints and in the Peach belt Conference in batting average at .411. She started all 53 games for the Saints and scored 39 runs while driving in 26. Voyles had 72 hits on the year, including 13 doubles, three triples, and six home runs.
She had a .623 slugging percentage and a .939 fielding percentage. Ranked in the PBC top 10 in slugging percentage, runs, hits, doubles and triples. She started every game for the Saints in 2008 and will look to patrol the middle infield for head coach Mike Davenport as a junior in 2009.
Voyles becomes the second All-American North Georgia has received since entering the NCAA three seasons ago. Junior Syretha Marble of the women's basketball team was also named third team All-American after the 2008 season.
