#1 Saints Claim Dahlonega Regional
Championship 5-0 Over Jaguars
DAHLONEGA, GA – Top-ranked North Georgia
completed a perfect sweep through the NCAA Southeast Regional
Sunday afternoon, using a no-hitter by Sarah Phillips to get by
Augusta State 5-0 and claim the Dahlonega Regional Tournament
Championship.
The Saints continue their historic run, winning their 23rd
straight game and improving to 46-3 on the season. North Georgia
will advance to the best of three Super Regional series against
Carson-Newman College next weekend. The NCAA will announce the
location of the Super Regional Monday afternoon.
Augusta State ends the season at 34-21 overall, having finished
fourth in the PBC regular season and runner up in the Dahlonega
Regional.
Sarah Phillips (35-1) tossed a complete game no-hitter in the
victory, saving her best performance of the tournament for last,
using just 78 pitches and facing two batters over the minimum for
her 32nd consecutive victory.
Emily Corish (8-4) suffered the loss, allowing two runs, one
earned, on five hits, while striking out two in 2.1 innings of
work.
After a pair of scoreless innings, North Georgia broke through in
the third frame with two runs on back-to-back RBI singles from
Leslee Smith and Pilar Harden to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
The Saints rallied with a run in the fourth inning as Kaelin
Farrington led off with a single and came around to score on a
two-out single up the middle by Courtney McGuire to plate
Farrington for a 3-0 advantage.
North Georgia then capped their scoring in the fifth inning with
an infield single by Stephanie Farmakis to score a run, and Kayla
Martin delivered an RBI double to right center to plate the final
run of the game in a 5-0 defeat of Augusta State.
North Georgia scored five runs on 12 hits, while Augusta State saw
their only scoring threat thwarted in the sixth inning with a pair
of runners on base as Alysha Krier sent a liner that found the
glove of a leaping McGuire in right field for the final out of the
inning.
The Saints end the season with a perfect 5-0 record against the
Jaguars, sweeping ASU in the regular season, before taking a 3-1
affair in the conference tournament and two more in the Dahlonega
Regional.
