AUGUSTA, GA – Junior Leslee Smith has
been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week after
hitting over .400 last week with 11 runs batted in, the second
straight North Georgia player to receive the award.
Leslee Smith hit .429 with two doubles and a homer for the third-ranked Saints, driving in 11 runs in six games last week. The junior designated player hit. 500 in four PBC games.
She went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in the opener at USC Aiken, and then went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a sacrifice fly and five RBI in the closer against Armstrong Atlantic State. Smith struck out only once in 15 at-bats and had a .684 slugging percentage.
Smith is the only PBC player hitting over .400 for the season, as she leads the league in runs batted in with 36, and batting average at .429.
Hours after being named the conference player of the week, Smith went out and smacked her sixth home run of the year and scored twice as the Saints defeated Columbus State 8-0 in game one and 6-2 in the nightcap to sweep a doubleheader from the Cougars.
The Saints are currently ranked 3rd in the nation at 29-3 overall, having won 21 of their last 22 contest. North Georgia also sits at the top of the Peach Belt Conference standings at 7-1 overall.
