DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia finished
play at the Captain D’s Classic with a perfect 4-0 record,
defeating Barry 4-0 and Catawba 6-4 Saturday afternoon at Haines
& Carolyn hill Stadium in non-conference action.
The 9th-ranked Saints push their winning streak to six games and
improve to 14-2 on the season with their unblemished mark at the
Captain D’s Classic.
In game one against Barry, North Georgia scored the deciding run
as Kimberly Stercay doubled in the fourth inning to bring Courtney
McGuire home for the 1-0 lead. The Saints would score three more in
the fifth inning, highlighted by a triple from McGuire to plate two
runs.
Trisha Snider (6-1) made four runs stand up as she allowed just
three hits and struck out one over 7.0 innings.
In game two against Catawba, The Saints jumped on top again, this
time with a clutch hit from freshman Pilar Harden who doubled with
the bases loaded to bring home three runs in the opening frame.
After the Indians responded with a single run in the fourth and
three more in the fifth, the Saints found themselves down to their
last at-bat in the seventh inning where they scored three runs on
three hits to come away with the 6-4 victory. Laura Voyles and
Leslee Smith tallied RBI hits in the inning as North Georgia
survived to extend their win-streak to six games.
Sarah Phillips (8-1) went the distance for the victory, allowing
seven hits and one earned run while striking out four.
The Saints return to action on March 9, hosting Columbia Union for
a doubleheader with first pitch set to start at 4:00 p.m.
