AUGUSTA, GA – Sophomore Sarah Phillips
has been named the Peach Belt Conference pitcher of the week for
the second time in three weeks after going 3-0 last week as the
Saints extended their winning streak to 14 games.
Sarah Phillips went 3-0 last week, tossing 22.0 innings and
striking out 19 batters while allowing just one earned run for a
0.32 earned run average. The sophomore allowed nine hits and walked
just one batter in the three games.
She started against Augusta State in the Saints conference opener,
pitching a complete game allowing her only earned run of the week
while striking out five. She then recorded 15 shutout innings
against Eckerd and Flagler on the road to pick up two more
victories, striking out 14 in the two games and allowing just six
hits.
Phillips anchors the North Georgia pitching staff that leads the
Peach Belt Conference in earned run average, wins, hits allowed,
and runs allowed. She is also second in the PBC in earned run
average 1.07, and second in wins with 12.
The Saints are currently ranked 5th in the nation, sitting at 22-2
overall and at the top of the Peach Belt Conference standings at
2-0, having won 14 straight games. North Georgia will play
conference rival USC Aiken in a doubleheader on Tuesday evening,
before making their way to West Georgia for a pair of games on
Thursday afternoon.
