Softball Up Two Spots to #3 in Latest NFCA Poll
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia
softball team has moved up two spots to #3 in the latest National
Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 poll released
Wednesday afternoon.
The Saints moved up a pair of spots after a 15-game winning streak
pushed North Georgia’s record to 23-3 overall and 3-1 in the
Peach Belt Conference.
Last week, the Saints went went 7-1, opening up with a pair of
home wins in conference play against Augusta State, before
traveling to Florida and sweeping four games with Eckerd College
and Flagler College. North Georgia then split with USC Aiken as the
Pacers put a lid on the Saints' 15-game winning streak.
North Georgia has claimed victory in run-rule fashion six
different times this season, while going a perfect 3-0 in
extra-inning contests.
While North Georgia continues to move up the rankings, individuals
make headlines in the Peach Belt Conference as Courtney McGuire
earned Player of the week honors last week, while Sarah Phillips
garnered the Pitcher of the week award in the PBC.
The Saints currently lead the Peach Belt Conference in pitching
and hitting, with the lowest earned run average in the league at
1.56, while leading all teams at the plate with a .316 batting
average.
Leslee Smith leads all hitters in the PBC with a .436 batting
average, while Smith and McGuire are tied for the league lead in
runs batted in with 28. McGuire also finds herself at the top of
the conference in home runs with 8, and runs scored with 34.
The Saints will travel to West Georgia for a doubleheader with the
Wolves on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action, before
returning home to face Armstrong Atlantic over the weekend at
Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.
