NFCA Top 25 | NCAA Regional Ranking
DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia
softball team finds themselves at the top of the NCAA Division II
Southeast Region ranking for the second straight week, while the
NFCA has the Saints as the #3 team in the country for the third
straight week.
North Georgia went 2-0 last week, taking a pair of games from
Columbus State University to improve to 29-3 overall and 7-1 in the
Peach Belt Conference to sit atop the league standings. Due to
inclement weather, the Saints had six games cancelled last week,
but the team will hit the road this weekend for an all-important
four-game road trip to Francis Marion University and UNC Pmebroke
in PBC action.
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll
keeps the Saints at #3 in the nation as the poll’s top five
team remained unchanged from a week ago. The Rambelles of Angelo
State continue to hold the top spot at 31-4 overall, followed by
Alabama-Huntsville, North Georgia, Southeastern Oklahoma, and
Humboldt State.
The Saints are currently the only Peach Belt Conference school
represented in the poll after Francis Marion fell out after being
ranked 19th a week ago. GCSU and FMU are currently the top two
teams receiving votes without being ranked as the Bobcats picked up
36 votes while the Patriots garnered 23 votes.
In the second NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll of the year,
North Georgia is again at the top with a record of 29-3 overall and
25-2 in Region games. The University of South Carolina Aiken
follows the Saints in the second position, with Lenoir-Rhyne coming
in third, GCSU fourth, and Newberry fifth. The bottom five of the
region standings are Augusta State, Wingate, Francis Marion,
Catawba, and Carson-Newman in that order.
The NCAA will continue to release weekly regional polls throughout
the rest of the season before selecting the field of 64 teams the
evening of Sunday, May 3.
