North Georgia Set To Host NCAA Softball Regional

DAHLONEGA, GA – The NCAA announced Sunday
evening that North Georgia College & State University will be
one of 16 host sites for the 2009 NCAA Division II Softball
Championships which will be played around the country May 8-10.
The four-team tournament at North Georgia will be one of two host
sites in the Southeast Region as Lenoir-Rhyne will host four teams
as well. The winner of each regional will advance to the NCAA Super
Regional May 15-16, with the Super Regional champion advancing to
the NCAA Division II College World Series in Salem, Virginia, May
21-25, at the James Moyer Sports Complex.
North Georgia will be the top overall seed in the Dahlonega
Regional, hosting and matching up with 8th seed Queens University
in the opening round, while #4 Augusta State will take on #5
Wingate University at the softball complex on the opening day of
the NCAA Southeast Regional in Dahlonega.
North Georgia is currently the #2 team in the nation according to
the latest NFCA Division II Top 25, and have held the top spot in
every NCAA Southeast Region Poll this season. The Saints are
currently 43-3 overall, having won 20 straight contests, and 35 of
their last 36 games, including capturing the Peach Belt Conference
regular season and Tournament Championship.
Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in
double-elimination tournaments across the country May 8-10.
