4th Annual Cancer Awareness Day Huge Success

DAHLONEGA, GA - The North Georgia College & State University softball team hosted its fourth annual Cancer Awareness Day on April 8, 2009, taking on Lander University as over 300 spectators witnessed the doubleheader at the Softball Complex.

The event program raised $1,391, which was donated to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation.  Anyone who was currently fighting cancer was honored with a brief on-field ceremony between games.

North Georgia College & State University Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. John Clower (pictured), and family members participated in throwing out the honorary first pitch. 

The team honored those who taught us to fight and recognized those who continue the fight against cancer. 

The North Georgia softball program would like to thank Lander University for their support and participation in helping to “Save Second Base” in the final regular season home games of the 2009 season.

The Saints two victories on Cancer Awareness Day ran their win-streak at the time to 12 games as North Georgia finished their historic season with the program’s best winning percentage in school history with a record of 50-5.

North Georgia captured the Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Championship, PBC Tournament Championship, NCAA Southeast Dahlonega Regional Championship, and the NCAA Southeast Super Regional Dahlonega Championship to advance to their first-ever Division II College World Series.
