Skeels and Knight Named to PBC Academic Squad
DAHLONEGA, GA – The Peach Belt Conference has
released the 2010 Softball All-Academic teams from the league
office and North Georgia placed two members on the team, including
one first-team and one second-team.
The teams are part of a season-long program recognizing the
outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the
classroom as well as on the field.
Senior Jessica Skeels was tabbed as a first-team member, while
junior Kasey Knight was named second-team All-Academic following
North Georgia’s World Series run during the 2010 season.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must
1) participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and
be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20
cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at
least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The
Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and
select the teams.
JESSICA SKEELS –
SENIOR – 3.97 GPA – FIRST-TEAM
Jessica Skeels, a 3.97 grade point average student, graduated in
May with a degree in middle grades education with a math and
science concentration. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native hit .265 with
two home runs, seven runs batted in, and eight runs scored during
the Saints record breaking season.
KASEY KNIGHT – JUNIOR – 3.50 GPA – SECOND-TEAM
Kasey Knight, a 3.50 grade point
average student, is a junior majoring in Physical Education
Leadership. The Watkinsville, Ga., native hit .294 with 26 runs
scored and a .374 on-base percentage during the 2010 season. As one
of the best defensive shortstops in the league, Knight had a .944
fielding percentage, making just seven errors on the season.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 26 NCAA
Division II National Championships. 13 member institutions in North
Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in
13 championship sports. 2009-10 members are Augusta State
University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State
University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis
Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Georgia
Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of
Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University,
University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of
South Carolina Aiken.
