Phillips Honored as Peach Belt Pitcher of the Week
AUGUSTA, GA – North Georgia softball
standout pitcher Sarah Phillips has been named the Peach Belt
Conference Pitcher of the Week announced this afternoon by the
league office.
This marks the fifth time Phillips has been named the PBC pitcher
of the week, earning the award the first week of the season during
her freshman campaign, three times last season, and once again the
opening week of the year in 2010.
The junior was nearly unhittable in three appearances last weekend
at the Aiken Early Bird Tournament, tossing 14.1 innings and
allowing just five hits and no earned runs while striking out 22
batters.
The Powell, Ohio, native picked up complete game victories in each
of North Georgia’s first two wins of the season, starting off
against Mount Olive and recording the 5.0 inning complete game win,
allowing one hit and no earned runs while striking out seven.
She then blanked Erskine, giving up four hits and striking out nine
Flying Fleet batters. Phillips saw action in the Saints’
final game of the weekend against Chowan, coming on in relief and
striking out six batters and not allowing a hit in 2.1 innings of
work out of the pen. Opponents combined to hit just .100 over the
weekend against the First-Team All-American.
North Georgia returns to action next weekend, playing host to the
Captain D’s Classic at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium as
the Saints will oppose Northern Kentucky and Delta State in singles
games, while taking on 7th-ranked Valdosta State for a pair of
games in a battle of top 10 ranked teams.
