Phillips Named PBC Pitcher of the Week Once Again
AUGUSTA, GA – North Georgia softball
right-handed pitcher Sarah Phillips has been named the Peach Belt
Conference Pitcher of the Week announced this afternoon by the
league office.
This marks the sixth time Phillips has been named the PBC pitcher
of the week, earning the award the first week of the season during
her freshman campaign, three times last season, and twice in three
weeks during the 2010 season.
Phillips posted a 5-0 record with two saves over the weekend at
the UAH Charger Chillout, tossing 34.1 innings and logging 34
strikeouts while allowing just one earned run along the way.
She started the weekend off against Northern Kentucky, going all
6.0 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out four. She
then came on in relief in the last of the seventh and faced the
final two batter to preserve a 9-8 for the Saints.
She followed with four straight wins for the #2 team in the
country, logging four complete games, including a 9.0 inning
marathon against Wayne State, a game the Saints came out on top 4-1
as the junior recorded a weekend-high eight strikeouts in the
game.
The Powell, Ohio, native currently has a record of 7-0 on the
season with an earned run average of 0.14. She has tossed 48.2
innings with 56 strikeouts, while opponents are hitting just .114
against the right-hander. North Georgia is off to their best start
in school history at 11-0, with two wins over ranked teams. She
leads the league in earned run average and is second in wins and
third in strikeouts.
Phillips and the Saints will finally play their home opener of the 2010 season on Sunday, February 28, hosting Queens University for a doubleheader set to start at 1:00 p.m. The Royals return to Dahlonega after making in appearance in last year’s Dahlonega Regional where North Georgia defeated Queens 2-0 in the opening round.
