Phillips Picks Up Weekly Award One More Time
AUGUSTA, GA – Right-handed hurler Sarah Phillips
has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week
announced this afternoon from the league office, the final weekly
awards of the 2010 season.
Phillips picks up the weekly honor for the fourth time this season
and the eighth time in her career. She grabbed the award the first
week of the season, and followed with the honor in week’s
three and eight, before rounding out the year with the award once
again in the 10th and final week.
The Powell, Ohio, native continued her domination last week with
four more wins and a 0.28 earned run average in 25.1 innings of
work. The junior led North Georgia to their second straight Peach
Belt Conference regular season championship with 28 strikeouts and
allowed just 16 hits in four conference games.
In a pair of wins over Columbus State, Phillips tossed a
complete-game shutout in the opener with 11 strikeouts, while
tossing 4.1 innings in the nightcap with five punch outs as the
Saints clinched the PBC title. At GCSU, she claimed two more wins
to push her win total to 32, the best mark in the nation.
She recorded two more complete games, not allowing an earned run
in the opener and tossing another shutout in the finale, while
striking out 12 in the doubleheader sweep. Phillips currently has
an earned run average of 0.80 with 220 strikeouts in 211.0 innings
of work.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday evening, welcoming Lander
University to town for senior day and North Georgia’s final
regular season games of the year. First pitch against the Bearcats
is set for 5:00 p.m. at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.
