AUGUSTA, GA – North Georgia right-handed pitcher
Sarah Phillips has been named the Peach Belt Conference pitcher of
the Week for the third time this season and seventh time in her
career the league office announced this afternoon.
Phillips continued her unbeaten season with four more victories
last week, tossing three complete-games and allowing just two
earned runs while recording 26 strikeouts in 22.0 innings of
action.
In a pair of wins over West Georgia, the junior went 3.0 innings
without allowing a hit in the opener to record the victory, while
in the nightcap, she tossed a complete-game, going all 5.0 innings
and giving up three hits while punching out five.
Against Georgia Southwestern in a Peach Belt Conference series on
Friday afternoon she gave up five hits and two earned runs in the
opener, striking out seven, while in the nightcap she carried a
no-hitter into the seventh inning, finishing with 12 strikeouts to
match a season-high, and allowing just one hit and no runs for her
22nd complete games of the year.
Currently sitting at 25-0 on the year, Phillips has an earned run
average of 0.76 with 179 strikeouts, all statistics that lead the
Peach Belt Conference. She also leads the country in wins, and is
in the top 10 in earned run average. The Powell, Ohio, native is
closing in on the century mark in wins, currently sitting at 84
career victories in her third collegiate season.
With 31 straight victories to open the season, North Georgia
currently has the second longest winning streak in Peach Belt
Conference history, and the 10th longest in NCAA Division II
history. The Saints are the only undefeated team remaining at the
NCAA Division I, Division II, or Division III level.
The No. 1 Saints will put their unbeaten mark on the line tomorrow
afternoon as North Georgia travels to play No. 6 Alabama-Huntsville
in a much-anticipated match-up of top 10 teams in the country.
North Georgia is currently 5-0 against teams in the national top
10, and 6-0 against squads ranked in the top 25.
