AUGUSTA, GA – Senior slugger Leslee Smith has been
named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week after leading
the Saints to another perfect weekend with doubleheader sweeps over
Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke.
Smith hit .364 last week with three home runs, 10 runs batted in,
and three runs scored as the top-ranked Saints stayed undefeated on
the season and rolled to a 4-0 mark over the weekend in Peach Belt
Conference action.
Smith opened the weekend against Francis Marion and exploded in
game one of a doubleheader, launching a pair of two-run homers to
single-handedly beat the Patriots 6-0, while in the nightcap she
drove in a run as North Georgia rolled to the series sweep.
At UNC Pembroke, the senior drove in a run in the opener, while
belting her third homer of the weekend in the second game, a grand
slam to send the Saints to a 9-3 victory. Smith had an on-base
percentage of .429 and a slugging percentage of 1.273.
For the second straight week and first time in school history, the
North Georgia softball team was selected as the No. 1 team in the
land in consecutive weeks, this time receiving all 16 first-place
votes to become the unanimous team atop the NFCA Division II Top 25
poll on Tuesday afternoon.
North Georgia will hit the road again four their next four games,
traveling to St. Augustine, Florida, to take on new-league member
Flagler College in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon with the
first game slated for 1:00 p.m.
The Saints then travel to Armstrong Atlantic for a Tuesday
afternoon double dip with the Pirates, before returning home for 10
straight games, including doubleheaders against No. 11
Alabama-Huntsville, and No. 12 Augusta State.
