AUGUSTA, GA – Sarah Phillips has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week announced on Wednesday afternoon from the league office.
The senior picks up her first weekly award of the year, but garners her ninth PBC Pitcher of the Week award during her four-year career, picking up the award one time in 2008, three times in 2009, four times in 2010, and now grabs the final weekly award of the season.
As the Peach Belt's all-time leader in wins with 120 victories, Phillips ended her final regular season in style last week, going 4-0 with a 0.55 earned run average and closing out the year with a no-hitter over Francis Marion to cap the regular season.
In a pair of wins over Lander and No. 22 Armstrong Atlantic, Phillips went the distance, allowing just one earned run and striking out six. She then came back on senior day against Young Harris in a five-inning victory and tossed 4.2 innings of no-hit ball before the seniors were honored and lifted from the contest.
Phillips followed with a no-hit complete-game victory over Francis Marion with five strikeouts to send the Powell, Ohio, native into the PBC tournament having tossed 13.1 consecutive innings without allowing a hit.
North Georgia holds the No. 1 seed in the upcoming PBC tournament for the third straight year, and will look to become the three-time champions and pick up the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Saints will open the weekend against UNC Pembroke in the opening round on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Freedom Florence Park.
