DAHLONEGA, GA - North Georgia College & State University head softball coach Mike Davenport has announced the signing of five players to National Letters of Intent during the NCAA's early signing period.
The five players, all from the state of Georgia include, Amanda Hawkins (Eastside HS), Brooke Herkel (Thomson HS), Meredith Heyer (Hillgrove HS), Ansley Phillips (Schley Co. HS), and Courtney Poole (Oconee Co. HS).
"We are very excited about the 2012 Class we were able to bring into our program during the early signing period," Davenport said. "Each one of these young ladies will be a tremendous asset to the Saints Softball program as well as an asset to our University as student-athletes. We look forward to the opportunity to coach this class and are excited about the impact they will have on our program."
Hawkins prepped at Eastside HS (Covington, GA) under Coach Jason Stokes where she caught for the Eagles for four seasons. During her junior season she was named First-Team All-Region along with Region Offensive Player of the Year while hitting .451 with 12 doubles, 11 home runs, and 47 runs batted in. In 2011, Hawkins was again named First-Team All-Region as well as receiving the Region Offensive Player of the Year honor for back-to-back years. Her senior season stats included a .406 batting average with 17 doubles, seven home runs and 30 runs batted in.
Herkel finished her high school career with her best stats in 2011, hitting .582 with eight doubles, 15 home runs and 36 runs batted in. Playing for Coach Jason Osborn (2008-2010) and Coach Ayasia Hampton (2011), she helped lead her team to a 2010 GHSA Final Four finish while being named First-Team All-Region. She was also named First-Team All-Region in 2009. Academically, Brooke has made the A/B Honor Roll during her four years at Thomson HS. She plays her travel ball with the Georgia Rockers Gold and Coach Ken Bowman.
A member of the 2011 GHSA Elite Eight team, Heyer prepped for Coach Jason Campbell at Hillgrove HS in Powder Springs, GA. During her career at Hillgrove, she played her way to career school records for home runs, walks, and runs batted in. In 2010 and 2011 Heyer was named to the All-Region Team and in 2011 named to the GHSA All-State Team. She finished her senior season with a .363 batting average, 10 doubles, five home runs, and 30 runs batted in. She is a member of the 2010/2011 Latin Honor Society and the A/B Honor Roll from 2008-2011.
Phillips prepped at Schley County High School in Ellaville, Georgia for Coach Brandy Connor. While at Schley Co., Phillips was named Offensive Player of the Year from 2008-2011. A First-Team All-Region member in 2008 and 2010, Ansley was named the Region Player of the Year in 2009 and 2011. She helped lead her team to an Elite Eight finish in 2009 and Sweet 16 finishes in 2008 and 2011. While playing travel ball with the GA Southern Force and Coach Tara Archibald, her team placed first in 2011 -16U Independence Day Tournament in Boulder, CO and third in 16U-2011 ASA Nationals.

A member of the 2008 and 2011 GHSA AAA State Championship teams at Oconee County High School, Poole prepped for Coach Bryan Eades. She finished her high school pitching career with 71 wins and 9 losses, while being named to the GHSA All-State teams for four years. Finishing with 715 career Strikeouts and a senior season earned run average of 0.74, Poole completed her HS career with an ERA under 0.80. As a member of the GA Southern Force summer team, her squad finished fourth at ASA 16U Nationals-2010 and 18U Premier Nationals-2011.
