DAHLONEGA, GA – Despite not playing a game this past week, the North Georgia softball team dropped five spots to No. 13 in the nation according to the latest NFCA Top 25 Poll.
The Saints were No. 8 in the country to start last week, then saw both of their scheduled conference doubleheaders against Francis Marion and USC Aiken postponed due to large amounts of rain.
Yesterday's doubleheader against UNC Pembroke was also postponed to April 12 due to heavy rain in Dahlonega once again.
North Georgia holds a record of 31-7 on the season, including a 5-3 record in the Peach Belt Conference.
The strength of schedule for the Saints this year has been one of the toughest in the country. North Georgia holds a 6-3 record against teams that are currently ranked in this week's top 25 poll.
Valdosta State took over the No. 1 spot after they improved their record to 32-2 on the season. The Blazers received 14 of the 16 first-place votes.
The Peach Belt was represented well in the latest edition of the NFCA poll, as three teams appeared in the rankings. Armstrong came in at No. 7, while Augusta State came in at No. 19. (North Georgia is No. 13.)
Up next on the schedule for the No. 13 Saints will be No. 19 Augusta State. North Georgia will host the Jaguars this weekend in the annual Cancer Awareness Day games. The doubleheader, which begins at 12:00 noon, will also be Family Day.
