DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia softball head coach Mike Davenport reached another milestone Tuesday evening under the lights at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium, picking up career win No. 500 with a doubleheader sweep over Georgia College in Peach Belt Conference action.

Mike Davenport and North Georgia softball have gone hand-in-hand for over a decade, producing some of the best teams in the country and consistently picking up win after win after win. In total, the skipper has a career record of 500-156 for a winning percentage of .762.

Averaging well over 40 wins a year over the least 12 seasons, Davenport and his teams have reached the 40-win plateau six different times, while eclipsing the 50-win mark four times in the last five years.

In 2011, a school-record 53 wins propelled North Georgia to a third straight NCAA Division II College World Series, while producing an astounding record of 153-19 in those three seasons.

The awards have been countless along the way, earning Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year honors each of the last three years. While guiding his club to the National Championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011 Davenport was named the NCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year.

In 11 complete seasons, Davenport has earned seven regular season championships, six conference tournament titles, and made five trips to the National Championships.

Tuesday evening following win No. 500 for Davenport, North Georgia honored their three seniors who will be concluding their stellar collegiate careers at end of the season. Among those three seniors were 29 conference, regional and national awards. Davenport has coached an All-American each of the last four years and the Saints have been home to the National Pitcher of the Year each of the last two seasons.

While Davenport reaches another milestone, the 13th-ranked Saints are in the middle of a race for another Peach Belt Conference regular season championship. Currently a full game behind 7th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic, North Georgia will need to overtake the Pirates down the stretch to capture their fourth straight title.
