Poole Named PBC Softball Pitcher of the Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of North Georgia softball pitcher Courtney Poole has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week it was announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
A freshman from Watkinsville, Ga., Poole had a stellar weekend for the 12th-ranked Saints in the circle last weekend as she went 3-0 with three complete games, a 0.95 earned run average and held batters to a .128 average during the 2013 UAH Charger Chillout in Decatur, Ala.
Poole pitched 22 innings and struck out 21 batters while giving up just 10 hits and three earned runs in five appearances. Two of her wins were shutouts as the Saints held the University of Charleston (W.V.) to just three hits while beating the Golden Eagles 9-0 in five innings. She then turned around the next day and shut out the University of West Georgia and gave up just one hit and two walks while striking out eight batters.
Poole currently leads the PBC with eight wins, eight complete games, 55.1 innings pitched and two shutouts. She is currently second with 60 strikeouts.
The Saints (11-2) will next welcome North Greenville University (1-1) to Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 20 for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
Following the region matchup with the Crusaders, North Georgia will once again hit the road, this time traveling to Salisbury, N.C. for the Catawba Invitational. The Saints will compete in five games over three days from Friday, Feb. 22 through Sunday, Feb. 24.
