Softball to Hold Annual "Cancer Awareness Day" Thursday, Mar. 14
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of North Georgia softball team is set to host their seventh-annual Cancer Awareness Day this Thursday afternoon as they host the University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers in the Peach Belt Conference home opener.
The theme for this year's event will be Strikeout Cancer.
The games begin this Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with the second game to start around 4:00 p.m.
As always, the school and team will be taking donations throughout the games, which will go towards the Susan G. Komen Foundation to find a cure for cancer.
Campus Connection will also be selling pink "NG softball" t-shirts on Thursday. The shirts will cost $10 with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Following game-one of the doubleheader, people will be asked to come onto the field to honor those they love who have battled or continue to battle cancer. Those individuals will be able to tell whom they are supporting and to whom they are standing to honor.
There will be players from both teams participating in the emotional event, with some of them catching pitches from special guests.
All those who attend are encouraged to wear pink, in honor of those who have suffered from this disease.
The ninth-ranked North Georgia softball team will be wearing their pink uniforms as usual to show their support.
