Softball Remains Third in Final Southeast Region Ranking

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of North Georgia (UNG) softball team held steady at third this week in the final Southeast Region ranking of the season. The top-10 did not change as all teams were idle with all three conferences having wrapped up their conference tournaments two weekends ago.

The top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA Division II Regional in two weeks with three of those slots being automatic bids awarded to the winners of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC), South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and Conference Carolinas tournaments.

The top two teams in the region rankings will have the opportunity to host half of the eight-team field for the Southeast Region, an honor the Saints have had for the last four years. The Saints are likely headed to Hickory, N.C. to the regional hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University as the two-, three-, six- and seven-seeds will all be grouped together.

The rankings saw No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic State University and 11th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne poised to host the two regional sites as they held steady atop the rankings.

UNG, 16th-ranked Columbus State University, Mount Olive College, Anderson University, No. 25 Georgia College and Wingate University rounded out the top-eight. Lenoir-Rhyne, Columbus State and Mount Olive are all guaranteed spots in the regional after claiming their respective conferences' automatic bids.
