Lady Saints win second straight, defeat GCSU 82-75

Huffman scores game-high 27

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - North Georgia College & State University used a 27-point performance from senior Megan Huffman to pull away in the second half and grab their second straight win, 82-75 over Georgia College & State University in PBC action Wednesday night in Memorial Hall.

GCSU (11-9, 6-7 PBC) took a five-point lead, their largest lead of the game, 4-9 at the 16:17 mark on a three-pointer by Dominique Huffin, but North Georgia responded with five straight points and tied the game 9-9 on a jumper by Syretha Marble.

The Lady Saints led by just a point with 6:08 remaining, but went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take an 11-point lead at 40-29 with 3:07 until the break. The Lady Bobcats' Emily Bixler hit a running layup with 15 ticks on the clock to cut North Georgia's lead to eight at 43-35, which turned out to be the halftime score.

The Lady Bobcats came out scoring in the second half and cut the North Georgia lead to just a point at 48-47 with 13:57 remaining, but a three-pointer by Lindsey Kitchens on the ensuing possession pushed the lead back out to four. GCSU would pull to within a point on three different occasions in the second half, but never led as the Lady Saints downed the Lady Bearcats 82-75 for their second straight win.

Megan Huffman led all scorers with 27, while Syretha Marble poured in 15 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. The Lady Saints had three others in double figures as Kourtney Singleton added 17, Kitchens tallied 12, and Rachael Jolley pitched in 11.

GCSU's Huffin led the Lady Bobcats with 24 points while Tiauna Brantley added 17 and Ashley Williams had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

North Georgia (14-6, 7-6 PBC) will return to action Saturday, February 9, as they travel to USC Aiken to take on the Lady Pacers at 5:30 p.m.
