Dahlonega, Ga. – The North Georgia
women’s basketball team will host the X-Trem Shootout over
the weekend as three schools from three different states will come
to Memorial Hall for the Thanksgiving Tournament.
With a pair games each day, North Georgia, Carson-Newman, the
University of West Alabama, and the University of West Georgia will
clash on Friday and Saturday as the four teams continue early
season action.
All the action is set to tip-off Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. as
Carson-Newman takes on West Georgia, followed by North Georgia
opposing West Alabama at 6:00 p.m. Saturday will match up West
Alabama and Carson-Newman at 2:00 p.m., followed by North Georgia
and West Georgia squaring off at 4:00 p.m. in the final game of the
X-Trem Shootout.
North Georgia (2-1) looks to continue their hot streak after
taking out Mars Hill College 73-66 on Monday evening in the Lady
Saints’ home opener. Senior Syretha Marble took control with
32 points and 13 rebounds to lead North Georgia’s second-half
surge to pick up the seven-point win.
West Alabama (0-3) will search for its first win of the season
after falling 67-54 to Delta State on Tuesday afternoon in the
Tigers home opener. Newcomer Keiara Middleton led the Red and White
in scoring with 12 points, followed by 11 points from Jenni
Thomley. Valerie Harris pulled down a team-leading eight
rebounds.
West Georgia (3-1) looks to get back on track after falling on
Monday night against instate-rival Columbus State, and suffering
their first set back of the season 68-46 on the road. The Wolves
could not get the lid of their respective basket all night from all
aspects of the floor, shooting a season low 33% (16-of-48) from the
field, and 48% (12-of-25) from the charity stripe. The Wolves are
ranked 21st in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25.
Carson-Newman (3-0) remaining perfect last Saturday as they
knocked off 24th-ranked Anderson University 80-68 on the road.
Ashley Kyle led the Lady Eagles with 15 points, while Shari Buford
and Ashley Tipton added 14 points apiece. The Lady Eagles used a
13-0 run in the first half to break the game open get away with the
road victory. Carson-Newman received nine votes in the latest USA
Today/ESPN Division II Top 25.
