DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia fought hard
in the second half, but the powerful offense of Armstrong Atlantic
State was not to be denied as they came through with the 81-60
victory over the Lady Saints Monday evening in Peach Belt
Conference action.
North Georgia falls to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the PBC, while
Armstrong Atlantic improves to 8-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the
conference.
The Lady Saints held their largest lead of the game at 19-14 when
Krystyn Young hit a running layup with 10:56 remaining in the first
half, but the Lady Pirates led throughout in the second period and
extended the lead late for the 21-point victory.
North Georgia held advantages in several key statistical
categories, including a rebounding edge of 38-32, and the turnover
margin of 17-15, but Armstrong Atlantic shot 58 percent from the
floor while the Lady Saints managed just 32 percent.
The Lady Saints dominated the offense glass, pulling down 18
offense boards, while holding AASU to just four rebounds off their
own shots. North Georgia struggled from behind the arc, shooting
just 15 percent (2-13) from long range, while the Lady Pirates
could do little long from three-point range, finishing the game at
56 percent.
North Georgia was led by Syretha Marble and Whitney Randolph, who
each collected a game-high 20 points. Marble added 10 rebounds as
well for a double-double, while no other Lady Saint player scored
more than six points on the night.
The Lady Pirates were the definition of balanced scoring, sending
six players in double figures on 18 assists.
North Georgia will look to pick up their first PBC win of the
season on Wednesday evening as they play host to GCSU at 5:30 p.m.
