Lady Saints Denied in Overtime 69-65 by CSU
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College
& State University came back in the final seconds to force
overtime before falling 69-65 to Columbus State University
Wednesday evening in Peach Belt Conference action.
North Georgia trailed by nine points with just over five minutes
remaining in regulation, but the Lady Saints came storming back,
sending the game to overtime on a layup by Sarah Stinson with 18
seconds left on the clock to make it 61-61. Columbus State came out
in overtime on a mission, scoring six points in the paint, and
recording four second-chance points to sneak away with a 69-65
victory.
North Georgia falls to 3-10 overall and 0-6 in the PBC, while
Columbus State improves to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the
conference.
Both teams were unable to capitalize, combining for 61 turnovers in
the contest. North Georgia turned the ball over 33 times, while the
Lady Cougars committed 28 turnovers.
Three North Georgia players reached double figures, led by Whitney
Randolph with 15, while Meredith Montgomery had 13, and Kari McCann
scored a career-high 12 points on 4-9 shooting from behind the
arc.
Phebe Smith led all scorers with 27 points, nine rebounds and six
steals, while Rosetta Hollis was the only other Lady Cougar to
reach double figures with 12 points and 11 rebounds for a
double-double.
The Lady Saints return to action on Saturday afternoon, looking to
pick up their first PBC win of the season against Augusta State.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
