Randolph's 36 Points Not Enough in Loss to Mocs
LAKELAND, FL
– The North Georgia women’s basketball team allowed
their largest point total of the year Sunday afternoon as the
Moccasins of Florida Southern College took down the Lady Saints
103-82 in the final game of the 2009 FSC/Holiday Inn Classic at
Jenkins Field House.
The Lady Saints drop their second straight game and fall back to
.500 at 4-4 following their final non-conference game before league
play starts in the first week in January, while Florida Southern
grabs their ninth straight victory, improving to 9-1 on the year
and going a perfect 2-0 in their own classic.
Whitney Randolph single handedly kept North Georgia in the game,
scoring a career high 36 points and adding 13 rebounds for a
double-double, placing her on the FSC/Holiday Inn All-Classic
Team.
Randolph averaged 26 points and 10.5 rebounds during the classic
and is joined on the All-Classic squad by Ashley Rath (St. Rose),
Brittany Carannante (Saint Leo), Dominique Daniels (Saint Leo),
Megan Dzikas (Florida Southern) and Chelsea Johnson (Florida
Southern).
It took the Moccasins just over 11 minutes to get the lead into
double digits when Chelsea Johnson hit a pair of free throws to put
FSC up 32-22 with 8:24 left in the first half. Their halftime
lead was 52-36 and North Georgia never got closer than 14 points in
the second half.
Johnson, one of five Moccasins scoring in double figures, led the
team with 24 points. Nicolle DiRaimo tossed in a season-high
21 points. Megan Dzikas had 16, Michaela Hawley 15 and Deneen
Bell a season-high 14 off the bench.
North Georgia shot 45.7 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from
behind the arc, and 78.9 percent from the free throw line, while
turning the ball over 23 times and out rebounding the Moccasins
45-26.
The Lady Saints return to action on January 4, 2010, hosting
Augusta State University in North Georgia’s first Peach Belt
Conference game of the season. The Lady Saints are 10-13 all-time
against the Lady Jags.
