DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia women's basketball team fought their way back from a 23-point halftime deficit on Saturday evening and took a late lead before Trevecca Nazarene rallied for a 77-74 victory in the final game of the Chick-fil-A Thanksgiving Classic in Memorial Hall.
North Georgia drops their first game in two weeks, falling to 6-2 on the year, while the Trojans go 1-1 in the weekend classic, improving 2-5 on the season.
The Lady Saints trailed 43-20 at intermission, but came out firing in the second half as Janyce Ealey started the period with a three-point play in the opening minute to cut the deficit to 20 at 43-23.
North Georgia continued to chip away at the lead and used a three-point play again, this time a bucket and free throw from Tiffany Marlow at the 13:15 mark trimmed the Trojan lead to single digits at 51-42.
Trevecca Nazarene quickly pushed the lead back out to 12 points, but the Lady Saints answered with a 15-2 run, capped by a pair of free throws from Lindsey Moss to give North Georgia their first lead of the half and erase the 23-point halftime deficit.
The lead for the Lady Saints lasted just 17 seconds however, as Britt Bell connected on a three-pointer the following possession to give the Trevecca the lead right back as the Trojans took control again and extended the lead back to 12 points with just 2:15 remaining.
North Georgia refused to go away in the final minutes as Jessica Trice caught fire and drained a pair of three pointers from the right wing, pulling her team to within two points at 74-72 with 1:02 remaining.
After a defensive stand, Ealey was fouled coming up the floor and the sophomore connected on both free throws, deadlocking the score for the fourth time in the game at 74-74 with 41 seconds remaining.
Trevecca's Bell had the answer once again with 22 seconds left, launching a three-pointer from the corner and finding the bottom of the net for her third three-pointer of the night and the clincher in a 77-74 victory.
The Lady Saints had one final possession, but Moss' three-pointer from the top of the key was wide of the mark and collected by Trevecca's Rachel Raby who ran out the clock on North Georgia.
For North Georgia, a pair of double-doubles led the way as Moss tallied a game-high 21 points and added 11 rebounds, while Ealey notched 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds of her own.
Four Trojans finished in double figures, led by Raby with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while K.C. Van Atta tallied 12 points and London Elie and Bell added 10 apiece.
North Georgia will have two weeks off before returning to action on December 13, playing host to Reinhardt College with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The Lady Saints will host Newberry College three days later before a New Year's Eve matchup with Young Harris College rounding out the slate for the calendar year.
