Burson Signs Two Guards to National Letters of Intent

DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College & state University head women's basketball coach Buffie Burson has announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent during the NCAA's recent Early Signing Period.

The Lady Saints have acquired the services of Amanda Rector from Dalton High School in Dalton, Georgia, and Torey Hyder from Powell high School in Knoxville, Tennessee.

"We are all very excited about the early additions to our 2011-12 recruiting class," Burson said.  "Amanda and Torey are impact players who fit perfectly into our style of play."

"Both players are also excellent students who fit North Georgia's high academic standards," Burson continued. "It will be exciting to see what these two players will bring to our Lady Saints' team."

Amanda Rector - 5-8 - PG - Dalton High School - Dalton, GA

A four year starter for Dalton High School, Amanda was selected to the All-Region and All-Area team for three consecutive years and was named to the "Chattanooga News Free Press Best of Preps" Second-Team as a Sophomore. As a Junior, she averaged 15.3 points per game, 4.6 assists per game, and was named Most Valuable Player of the Cass High School Christmas Tournament, and Adairsville Thanksgiving Classic. Currently her team is 3-0 on the 2010-11 season and she was just named Most Valuable Players of the Adairsville Thanksgiving Tournament for the second consecutive season. Amanda is also a Georgia Scholar recipient and is a member of the Dalton High School Honor Roll.

Torey Hyder - 5-11 - G - Powell High School - Knoxville, TN

Leading her team to back-to-back TSSAA State Tournament Appearances prior to the 2010-11 season, Torey has tallied 455 points, 121 assists, and 246 rebounds during her first three seasons at Powell High School. She was named to the Gibbs Thanksgiving Tournament All-Tournament Team, and played AAU for the Tennessee Lady Dawgz. She is a member of the Powell High School Honor Roll.

Rector and Hyder will make their way to Dahlonega next fall to play for a North Georgia squad that is currently 6-2 on the season with three non-conference games remaining on the schedule during the month of December. The Lady Saints will open the New Year with a road game at Augusta State University on January 3, 2011.
