Lady Saints Hold Off Flagler For 53-46 PBC Victory

DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia women's basketball team made it two straight wins on Wednesday evening, welcoming Flagler College to town and taking the battle of the Saints 53-46 in Memorial Hall in Peach Belt Conference action.

The Lady Saints win their second straight, improving to 13-6 overall and back to .500 at 4-4 in the Peach Belt Conference. Flagler falls to 4-12 overall and 1-7 in league action, as North Georgia now leads the all-time series 10-0 between the two programs.

The lead changed hands four times in the first half as the two teams played a tightly contested 20 minutes with neither team leading by more than six points. North Georgia held that six-point lead with 1:45 remaining in the period as Janyce Ealey got a layup to go, giving the home team a 22-16 edge.

Flagler pulled to within a bucket just two possessions later, but Meredith Montgomery hit a running layup with 23 seconds remaining, sending North Georgia to intermission with a five-point lead.

Just four minutes into the second half, North Georgia extended their lead to six points once again, using a three-pointer from Tiffany Marlow to give the home Lady Saints a 31-25 lead.

Jessica Howard gave the Lady Saints their first double-digit lead of the game with 3:53 remaining, hitting a layup to give North Georgia a 10-point lead at 47-37.

The double-digit lead would be the only of the game as Flagler pulled to within six points on a three-pointer from Charlsea Owens at the 1:06 mark before North Georgia held on for the seven-point win.

North Georgia's Jessica Howard made her mark on the game, scoring four points, but pulling down a program record 24 rebounds in the contest, grabbing 15 defensive boards and nine offensive rebounds to set the new school record.

Janyce Ealey led all scorers with 14 points, while Meredith Montgomery was the only other North Georgia player in double figures, finishing with 11 points and three assists. Lindsey Moss tallied seven points and eight rebounds in the win, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in 29 minutes of action.

Owen and Ebonee Bell were the only Flagler players to finish in double figures, tallying 13 and 10 points respectively, while Adrienne Donelson added four points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

The Lady Saints will play their third game of the week on Saturday afternoon, welcoming in-state rival Armstrong Atlantic to town for a Peach Belt Conference battle. The contest will serve as Homecoming 2011 with festivities planned throughout the day.
