DAHLONEGA, Ga. – One of the the cornertsones for the North Georgia College & State University athletic department is community service by the student-athletes. On Sunday, Sept. 16, the women's basketball team did their part to give back to the community that so readily supports them during the year – and they did it by taking on a new sport.
The Saint women volunteered for the First-Annual Happy Tails Golf Tournament held at Achasta Golf Club. The event raised money for the Lumpkin County Animal Shelter with all proceeds from the tournament going to benefit the shelter and its services to the pets and people of Lumpkin County.
"It was a well-run super event to raise money for the animal shelter," said head coach Buffie Burson. "Our players had a great time and were able to meet a lot of members of the community as well. Any time you can give back to the community – especially for such a great cause – it is a special day in all of our lives."
The women's basketball team helped with the "Longest Drive" and "Closest to the Pin" holes as well as helped run the "Hole-in-one" contest. They also took pictures for the event manager and helped distribute the gift bags to each golfer.
The event was put on by Eddie Harris and the Friends of Lumpkin County Shelter Animals partnered with the LCAS.
