Carnes Named 2012-13 Pre-Season All-American by Women’s Division II Bulletin

BEAVERTON, Ore. – North Georgia College & State University junior forward Jaymee Carnes tore up the record books last season in her first campaign with the Saints' women's basketball program and the NCAA Division II women's basketball community took note. Carnes added to her already impressive résumé Friday as she was named to the Women's Division II Bulletin's 2012-13 Preseason Super 16 All-America team by the Women's Division II Bulletin.

Carnes, the 2012 Daktronics National Player-of-the-Year as well as the Southeast Region and Peach Belt Conference Player-of-the-Year, took the conference, region and nation by storm last season after transferring from NCAA Division I school Wake Forrest. The Gainesville, Ga. native went on to lead the Saints and nation with 20 double-doubles that included averaging 25.0 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.

Carnes' 25.0 points per game last year led the nation as she finished the season with 624 total points, the tenth-most points in a single season in Peach Belt history.

She also set school records for total points, scoring average and free throws made (180). She also holds the school's NCAA Division II era record for most points (40), blocks (9) and field goals made (16) in a single game.

Carnes scored 30 or more points in three games last season including a career-high 40 points in the Saints' third game of the season, an 86-67 victory over Brenau on Nov. 25. She finished second in the league and 15th in the nation in rebounds per game and ranked eighth-nationally in blocks.

The team features two players from each region with Kayla Harris from fellow Peach Belt school the University of South Carolina Aiken joining Carnes as the representatives for the Southeast Region.

Kari Daugherty from Ashland was tabbed as the Preseason Player-of-the-Year by the publication and her team was revealed as the No. 1 team in the nation in this season's preseason top-25 poll.

The Saints, which went 12-14 a season ago, open their season on Friday, Nov. 16 by hosting the Lady Saints Tip-Off Classic. North Georgia will take on Carson-Newman and the University of West Florida in their first two games of the season before hitting the road for the rest of the 2012 calendar year.
