COLUMBUS, GA – The North Georgia women's golf team improved on their opening round total by 29 shots on Tuesday afternoon and catapulted two spots to finish in 8th place at the Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic played at the Country Club of Columbus.
After an opening round 347, all five players improved their score for North Georgia in round two and emerged with a final round 318 to snag 8th place overall with 665.
UNC Pembroke held off a late surge from Lander to capture the team championship with a final round 314 and two-day team total of 629. The Lady bearcats made it interesting however, with a tournament low 303 on Tuesday to finish six strokes behind the Braves.
Shorter University, Columbus State and Tusculum College rounded out the top five, while the Lady Saints finished just four shots behind 6th place Montevallo and one shot back of 7th place Queens University of Charlotte.
Nikki Crowley led from wire-to-wire to capture the individual title, firing a final round three-over-par 75 to finish two shots ahead of Meghan Moore who made it interesting late with an even-par 72 in the final round.
Erica Breeden continues to improve during her brief collegiate career as the sophomore fired a career-low six-over-par 78 in the final round. The record-setting day for Breeden put her in a tie for 16th place overall. Ironically enough, Breeden has also shaved 16 shots off her first-ever collegiate round in the fall of 2010 and has become one of the best up-and-coming players in the league.
Catalina Olarte showed plenty of improvement on Tuesday as well, following up an opening round 87 with a final round 77 to send the junior to an 18th place finish.
Abbey Gill (80) and Casey Truelove (83) each cut six strokes off their first round scores to finish in 24th and 35th places respectively, while LeeAnn Noble's final round 96 send her to a 59th place finish.
The Lady Saints return to action next week, traveling to Savannah, Georgia, to take part in the Armstrong Pirate Women's Invitational at Savannah Quarters Country Club.
