POOLER, GA – The North Georgia women's golf team wrapped up the Armstrong Pirate Women's Invitational on Tuesday by improving on their opening round score by 19 strokes en route to an 11th place finish.
The Lady Saints followed up an opening round 357 with a final round 338 at the par-72 Savannah Quarters. Four of the five members of the North Georgia squad shaved strokes of their first round scores on day two, with Catalina Olarte shaving off a team-high 10 strokes.
The PBC dominated field saw four teams in the top five led by UNC Pembroke who followed up a team total of 318 with an identical 318 to cruise to a ten-shot victory over Central Oklahoma. Lander and host Armstrong finished in a tie for third, while Flagler rounded out the top five.
The Braves Meghan Moore earned individual honors as she raced to a three shot victory over Armstrong's Jenna Birch. Pembroke's Dana Watkins and Lander's Ashley Shinn tied for third, while Central Oklahoma's Lindsey Bensch finished rounded out the top five.
Once again Olarte led the way for the Lady Saints, firing a three-over 75 on day two, cutting 10 strokes off her opening round 85. Olarte finished in the top 10 yet again landing in sole possession of sixth place.
Following Olarte was sophomore Casey Truelove who carded a 12-over-par 84 in the final round. Truelove improved on her opening round score by nine strokes and finished in a tie for 49th place with teammate Erica Breeden.
Breeden finished tied with Truelove behind Olarte and she was the lone member of the Lady Saints who failed to improve on her first round score. Breeden dropped a stroke on day two following up an opening round 88 with an 89.
Abbey Gill and LeeAnnn Noble both shot 18-over-par 90's in the final round of play. Gill improved on her opening round score by five strokes, while Noble shaved off one stroke. Gill finished in a tie for 66th place, while Noble finished in a tie for 56th place.
The Lady Saints return to the links on Monday, March 12, when they host the school's first ever tournament. The North Georgia Spring Invitational takes place March 12-13 at Achasta by Reynolds.
