Box Score | PBC Tournament Home Page
Americus, GA – North Georgia closed out
the regular season in fine fashion Saturday afternoon, dropping
Georgia Southwestern 8-0 on the road in Peach Belt Conference
action, securing the Lady Saints a home playoff game on Tuesday
afternoon.
The Lady Saints (8-6-2, 5-3) lock up the fourth position in the
Peach Belt Conference standings with the win, their highest finish
since entering the NCAA four seasons ago. The fourth place finish
sets up a showdown Tuesday afternoon at home against Armstrong
Atlantic in the first round of the PBC Tournament, a team North
Georgia tallied their first-ever victory against just last Saturday
in a 2-0 affair.
Saturday’s 8-0 shutout of the Georgia Southwestern sends
North Georgia to a perfect 5-0 against the Hurricanes in school
history, having shutout GSW in all five contests.
The Lady Saints got the storm started early Saturday afternoon at
Hurricane field as freshman sensation Danielle Brannan tallied her
fourth goal of the season on a pass from Kelly Martin to make it
1-0. Tessa MacGregor doubled North Georgia’s lead in the 17th
minute as she took a cross from Casey Smith and sent it home for a
2-0 advantage.
Sophomore Lauren Schenk took over midway through the first period,
scoring goals in the 25th and 43rd minute to give North Georgia a
4-0 lead. Schenk runs her season tally on goals to nine with the
pair of scores.
Katie Turner would add one more score for the Lady Saints before
the break, breaking free with just 12 seconds remaining in the half
on a pass from Rachael Peckham to give North Georgia a 5-0 halftime
advantage.
Jessica English held the Hurricanes scoreless in the first period,
recording one save in goal as North Georgia outshot GSW 23-3.
The second period saw North Georgia add three more goals to their
lead as Kelsey Webb tallied her first goal of the year in the 69th
minute on a pass from Lauren Hughes. Turner answered with another
goal of her own just seven seconds later to give the Lady Saints a
7-0 lead.
With time running out, freshman Natalie Douglass got in on the
scoring, sending a shot past the keeper in the 89th minute to seal
a 8-0 victory.
Kirsten Ross saw action in goal during the second period, stopping
both shots by the Hurricanes to preserve the shutout. North Georgia
outshot GSW 40-6, and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
With the regular season coming to a close, the Lady Saints will
host their first-ever NCAA playoff game Tuesday afternoon at 1:00
