Pembroke, NC – North Georgia College
& State University fought the Lady Braves into overtime, but
13th-ranked UNC Pembroke rallied for a 1-0 victory Friday afternoon
at Varsity Grounds.
The Lady Braves (12-1-1, 4-1-1 PBC) continue to ride the best start
in school history with 12 wins in September and October while the
Lady Saints fell to 6-4-2 overall and 3-2-0 in the Peach Belt.
The Lady Braves logged three shots in the first 10 minutes of the
game. A trio of UNCP players all took shots from inside the box and
just missed capitalizing on scoring opportunities. The Lady Saints
also missed an opportunity in the eighth minute when Kelly Martin
took a shot off a corner kick that connected with the crossbar.
After the torrid pace of the first 15 minutes over, the game
settled into a contest that was disputed mostly in the midfield.
After the first half ended, neither team had scored while UNCP and
NGCSU tallied four and three shots, respectively. The second half
ended with both teams remaining scoreless and the game was sent
into overtime.
In the 93rd minute, several UNCP players fought the Lady Saint
defenders to get the ball into the net. However, it was freshman
Emily DesJarlais who finally managed to boot the ball into the goal
on the rebound after shots by Dagnachew and freshman Britney
Joiner.
The Lady Saints return to action on Monday afternoon, hosting
Wingate University at 4:00 p.m.
