Lady Saints Down Flagler, Extend Winning Streak
DAHLONEGA, GA
– The North Georgia College & State University
women’s soccer team extended their winning streak to six
games Saturday afternoon, using a trio of second half goals to
defeat Flagler College 3-0 at the Soccer Complex in Peach Belt
Conference action.
The Lady Saints improve to 10-3-2 overall with the victory and
6-2-1 in the Peach Belt Conference, while Flagler College falls to
7-6-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in the league.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie at intermission as both
squads tallied four shots, while North Georgia put two of those on
goal.
North Georgia broke the game open in the second period in the 48th
minute as Kelsey Martin sent a header home to give the Lady Saints
a 1-0 lead. Casey Smith sent a corner in the box on the play and
Emily Hughes added a deflection to the head of Martin for the
goal.
Lauren Schenk extended the Lady Saints’ lead in the 65th
minute as Kelly Penston found Schenk sliding through the Flagler
defense and the junior recorded her fourth goal of the season,
giving North Georgia a 2-0 lead.
North Georgia added one more goal in the 86th minute as Smith
dazzled the crowd with a corner kick that curled inside the far
post to give the Lady Saints a 3-0 victory. The goal for Smith was
her 5th of the season.
Kirsten Ross recorded another shutout in goal, holding Flagler
scorless while recording two saves, including a diving stop in the
final minutes in a one-on-one situation to preserve the shutout.
Christie Reuther suffered the loss for Flagler, allowing all three
North Georgia goals, while recording three saves in all 90 minutes
of action.
North Georgia will play their final regular season game Saturday
October 31, hosting UNC Pembroke at the Soccer Complex in Peach
Belt Conference action.
