JACKSONVILLE, AL – North Georgia College
& State University battled with Jacksonville State University
down to the final 10 minutes Sunday evening, but a late goal by the
Gamecocks sank the Lady Saints in their only exhibition in
preparation for the 2009 season.
Lindsay Boehmler notched the only score of the game with 7:18
showing on the clock in the second half, taking a pass from Myla
Senff and sending a laser shot that deflected off North Georgia
goalkeeper Jessica English for the game winner.
North Georgia managed nine shots, but placed just four of those on
goal, two in each half, as they were outshot 13-9 in the contest
and 10-6 in the second period.
Casey Smith tallied a team-high three shots, while Kelly Penston,
Kelsey Martin, and Lauren Schenk each recorded a pair of shots.
English lasted all 90 minutes in goal for North Georgia, stopping
five shots while allowing one goal. Jacksonville State goalkeeper
Christine Cunningham registered three saves on the evening,
including a decisive one-on-one save against midfielder Danielle
Brannon late in the second half.
The defeat at the hands of the Gamecocks marks the Lady Saints
only exhibition of the year as they prepare to open the 2009
regular season on the road Friday, August 28, at the University of
Tampa.
